Kalinga Institute of Dental Sciences

DENTAL SCREENING AND TREATMENT CAMP

On 9 July 2026, KIDS, in association with KIIT NSS, conducted a community dental outreach program at the HMV Driver Training Institute, Chhatia, inspired by the “Art of Giving” philosophy. The program screened 65 individuals, identifying dental caries, calculus, stains, periodontal conditions, and tobacco-related oral lesions. Scaling was provided to 20 beneficiaries, while others received preventive care, counseling, and referrals. Participants were educated on proper brushing, balanced nutrition, oral hygiene, and the harmful effects of tobacco. The initiative strengthened KIDS’s commitment to accessible dental care and preventive oral health awareness in the community.

Dental Health Camp

Creating healthier smiles through community outreach, the Kalinga Institute of Dental Sciences (KIDS), in association with the KIIT National Service Scheme (KIIT-NSS), conducted a Dental Health Camp at Vivekananda School. During the initiative, 47 students were screened, and 14 students received the required dental treatment, ensuring timely care and intervention. The camp emphasized preventive oral healthcare, early diagnosis, and oral hygiene awareness among young learners. Through such impactful initiatives, KIDS and KIIT-NSS continue to strengthen their commitment to community welfare by delivering quality dental services and fostering healthier habits for a brighter, healthier future.

The initiative focused on early diagnosis, oral hygiene education, and encouraging healthy dental practices among young learners. This camp reflects our commitment to community service and improving public health through outreach programs. Anganwadi Visit

The NSS Unit regularly organises a visit to the Anganwadi Kendra at Prasanti Vihar Colony. During the visit, NSS volunteers interact warmly with the children through educational and playful activities, aiming at enhancing their confidence and social skills. The volunteers collaborate closely with the Anganwadi teachers to create an engaging and joyful environment. The children enthusiastically showcase their talents in writing, dancing, painting, and artwork. The visit concludes with lunch and heartfelt goodbyes, leaving the children excited for future interactions with the NSS unit.

Earth Day Plantation Drive

On Earth Day (April 22, 2026), the KIIT NSS Unit of Civil Engineering organized an impactful program promoting environmental awareness and sustainability during the summer vacation. Despite the holidays, students actively participated in a decentralized Plantation Drive by planting saplings in their homes and local communities across cities including Darbhanga, Patna, Nalanda, Garhwa, Hajipur, Bijapur, Bhagalpur, and Guwahati. The initiative also featured a Poster-Making Activity, where volunteers created handmade posters spreading messages on climate action and environmental conservation. The event reflected the students’ dedication toward a greener future and highlighted the importance of individual responsibility in protecting nature.

BEAT THE HEAT 2.0

The NSS Unit successfully organized “Jal Raksha and Beat the Heat 2.0” on the occasion of World Water Day, combining environmental awareness with humanitarian service. “Echoes of Silence: An Insight into the Lives of the Elderly” was an outreach activity conducted by the NSS Unit of the School of Mechanical Engineering and Aerospace Engineering to understand the emotional and social challenges faced by elderly people. Volunteers spent quality time with residents through conversations, songs, games, and performances, bringing joy and companionship to them. The interaction highlighted the importance of emotional support, care, and human connection in old age. In observance of World Down Syndrome Day, NSS SCE visited Open Learning Systems, a special school in Bhubaneswar dedicated to children with intellectual disabilities and specific needs. Our NSS unit organized an Ideathon, "Innovate. Create. Achieve.", bringing together 170 volunteers to promote innovation and real-world problem-solving. A panel of judges and faculty members evaluated the pitches and provided valuable insights to improve the concepts. As part of its social outreach initiative, NSS SoEE Project Lakshya organized “Mission Aarogyam”, a Free Health and Dental Check-up Camp at Injana Panchayat Office on 15th March 2026. The camp was conducted in collaboration with KIMS doctors, nurses, and medical staff to provide healthcare support and awareness to villagers. Volunteers actively assisted in organizing the camp and guiding beneficiaries. 7 DAY NSS SPECIAL CAMP

The NSS KSBT Special Camp was conducted from 14th to 21st March 2026 at Bengali Sahi and Shikharchandi with active participation from NSS volunteers. Throughout the seven days, various social, cultural, environmental, and awareness-based activities were organized, including introductory community interaction sessions, painting and dance competitions, trekking and cleanliness drives, drug-free and road safety awareness rallies, government scheme awareness campaigns, sanitary pad distribution, quiz competitions, sports activities for children, prize distribution, and cultural performances. The camp promoted teamwork, social responsibility, environmental awareness, creativity, and community engagement, reflecting the dedication and service spirit of rural development and social welfare.

The program aimed to honor the resilience of women and promote a more inclusive society. The event kicked off with the NSS Anthem, followed by the felicitation of the Chief Guest, Dr. Namrata Misra, who received a sapling as a token of respect. After insightful speeches from Dr. Misra and Programme Officer Dr. Raghunath Dey, volunteers showcased an appreciation video and performed a powerful dance themed around empowerment. FIRE AWARENESS AND MOCK DRILL

The NSS Unit successfully organized a “Fire Awareness and Mock Drill” programme to promote safety awareness and emergency preparedness among students and volunteers. Conducted in collaboration with the Odisha Fire Service team, the event witnessed active participation from over 100 students and NSS volunteers. Expert-led sessions and live demonstrations provided practical knowledge on fire hazards, evacuation procedures, the Fire Triangle, and the proper use of different fire extinguishers. Participants also gained hands-on experience through a mock drill under professional supervision. The programme significantly disaster preparedness while contributing to the creation of a safer and more aware campus environment.

The Heat Wave Awareness Rally was organized by KSEC NSS volunteers to spread awareness about the effects of extreme heat and preventive safety measures among villagers. NSS SCE KIIT visited Jeevan Jyoti Ashram to raise awareness about rare diseases and inspire scientific curiosity. To make learning interactive, the team demonstrated science experiments, including DNA extraction and volcanic eruptions. Over three impactful days, the Department of Pedodontics & Preventive Dentistry, Kalinga Institute of Dental Sciences (KIDS), in association with KIIT National Service Scheme (NSS), successfully conducted a comprehensive dental outreach across Keonjhar. A total of 750 children were screened, with preventive and curative dental treatments provided alongside oral health education sessions. The initiative reached underprivileged tribal children and children with hearing impairment, ensuring quality oral healthcare where it is needed most. We sincerely thank our Honourable Founder, Prof. Dr. Achyuta Samanta, whose vision of compassionate service continues to inspire meaningful community outreach and healthier smiles for every child.

During the Youth Leadership Training Programme 2025 at KIIT, the NSS KINS unit organized a vital CPR Demonstration to equip attendees with essential medical skills. NSS volunteers demonstrated correct Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation techniques, highlighting the critical importance of timely chest compressions and rescue breaths during cardiac emergencies. The hands-on session provided participants with practical knowledge and the confidence to act swiftly in life-threatening situations. MENTAL HEALTH WORKSHOP & VIJAY DIWAS CELEBRATION

The NSS Unit of KSOM organized Project UMEED on 16th December 2025 at the Campus 7 Auditorium to spread awareness about mental health and emotional well-being. The event aligned with SDG 3, SDG 4, and SDG 10, promoting holistic development and inclusivity. Around 115 NSS volunteers, students, faculty members, and guests participated enthusiastically. Insightful sessions by Squadron Leader Sabyasachi Mishra and Rajnish Ranjan highlighted mental resilience, stress management, and emotional balance. Cultural performances, including dance, Nukkad Natak, and music, creatively addressed mental health stigma and hope.

Survey and Village Visit Program

NSS volunteers conducted a Survey and Village Visit Program at Kela Sahi, Kalarahanga, Bhubaneswar, Odisha. The main objective of the visit was to understand the living conditions, educational status, and social challenges faced by the local residents. Volunteers interacted with villagers and collected important information regarding sanitation, health, and awareness facilities available in the area. The activity helped students develop social responsibility and encouraged them to contribute towards community welfare and rural development initiatives.

Dental Check-up Camp

A Dental Check-up Camp was organized by the NSS Unit of the School of Mechanical Engineering and Aerospace Engineering for the villagers to provide basic dental examination and medical guidance. A team of doctors conducted dental check-ups for the local residents and identified various oral health issues faced by them. After examination, slips were provided mentioning the dental problems along with recommendations to visit KIMS Hospital for further treatment and proper medical consultation. The camp successfully helped the villagers receive preliminary dental assessment and professional guidance while also promoting community service and teamwork among the volunteers.

STAND FOR RIGHTS AWARENESS RALLY

The NSS Unit successfully organized the “Stand for Rights Awareness Rally” to promote awareness about human rights, equality, and social justice among students and the community. The rally witnessed active participation from over 80 NSS volunteers and was conducted from Campus 7 to Campus 3 via KIIT Road to maximize public outreach. Through posters, slogans, public interaction, and a Human Rights Oath, participants effectively spread messages of dignity, inclusivity, and non-discrimination. The NSS School of Electronics Engineering organised a Flashmob and Nukkad Natak on Cancer Awareness on 8th November 2025 at Nexus Esplanade Mall, Bhubaneswar. NSS SoEE Parivartan volunteers actively participated to spread awareness about cancer prevention, early detection, and social responsibility. The flash mob attracted public attention, while the street play highlighted misconceptions, emotional challenges, and the importance of timely diagnosis and support for patients. Through creative performances and audience interaction, the event effectively promoted awareness, empathy, and collective responsibility towards building a healthier society.

The Pledge Taking Ceremony on Tobacco-Free World and Anti-Smoking Awareness was organized by the NSS KSMAE as an initiative to spread awareness about the harmful effects of tobacco and smoking among students. The program encouraged participants to adopt a healthy lifestyle and contribute towards building a tobacco-free society. During the session, students actively took a pledge to stay away from tobacco products and inspire others to make responsible choices. The activity highlighted the serious health risks associated with smoking and emphasized the importance of self-discipline, awareness, and social responsibility in creating a healthier and smoke-free future.

SRIJAN: EKTA KE RANG

The NSS Unit of KSOM organized “Srijan: Ekta ke Rang” on 31st October 2025 at Kotler Hall, KIIT Campus 7, to celebrate Rashtriya Ekta Diwas and promote unity, creativity, and togetherness among students. The event featured a Handmade Poster Making Competition with around 25 participants expressing themes of national harmony through art and messages. It was judged by Prof. (Dr.) Abhishek Kumar and Prof. (Dr.) Anubhav Mishra. Dance performances, poetry recitations, the “Wall of Unity” activity, and a selfie stand added vibrancy to the celebration.

Awareness Camp on Menstrual Hygiene

The NSS Unit of KIIT School of Law organised an Awareness Camp on Menstrual Hygiene on 25th October 2025 at Pathargaria Village, Khorda District, Bhubaneswar. The volunteers conducted door-to-door interactions with women and adolescent girls to spread awareness about menstrual health, hygiene management, and the importance of breaking social taboos surrounding menstruation. They demonstrated the proper use and disposal of sanitary pads, discussed the health risks of unhygienic practices, and informed villagers about affordable sanitary products and government initiatives. The camp encouraged open discussions and promoted awareness regarding safe menstrual hygiene practices.

Plantation Drive

The Plantation Drive was conducted independently by KSM&AE NSS in the adopted village of Kendupatna. The main objective of the event was to encourage environmental responsibility and contribute to greenery in the local area. Volunteers planted more than 60 saplings and helped create awareness among villagers about the importance of trees, clean air, biodiversity, and long-term ecological balance. This activity was not only about planting trees but also about creating a sense of ownership toward nature. Volunteers interacted with local residents and motivated them to care for the saplings after planting, ensuring that the effort had a lasting impact.

The NSS Unit of KIIT School of Law, in collaboration with the Legal Aid Clinic and the Centre for Criminal Law and Criminal Justice Administration, organised a prison visit to Special Jail, Jharpada, Bhubaneswar. The visit provided students and volunteers with valuable insights into prison administration, inmate welfare, and rehabilitation measures. Participants explored various facilities including the prison mess, library, radio room, infirmary, under-trial cells, and canteen, while also learning about educational and communication opportunities available to inmates.
