DENTAL SCREENING AND TREATMENT CAMP

On 9 July 2026, KIDS, in association with KIIT NSS, conducted a community dental outreach program at the HMV Driver Training Institute, Chhatia, inspired by the “Art of Giving” philosophy. The program screened 65 individuals, identifying dental caries, calculus, stains, periodontal conditions, and tobacco-related oral lesions. Scaling was provided to 20 beneficiaries, while others received preventive care, counseling, and referrals. Participants were educated on proper brushing, balanced nutrition, oral hygiene, and the harmful effects of tobacco. The initiative strengthened KIDS’s commitment to accessible dental care and preventive oral health awareness in the community.

Creating healthier smiles through community outreach, the Kalinga Institute of Dental Sciences (KIDS), in association with the KIIT National Service Scheme (KIIT-NSS), conducted a Dental Health Camp at Vivekananda School. During the initiative, 47 students were screened, and 14 students received the required dental treatment, ensuring timely care and intervention. The camp emphasized preventive oral healthcare, early diagnosis, and oral hygiene awareness among young learners. Through such impactful initiatives, KIDS and KIIT-NSS continue to strengthen their commitment to community welfare by delivering quality dental services and fostering healthier habits for a brighter, healthier future.

The initiative focused on early diagnosis, oral hygiene education, and encouraging healthy dental practices among young learners. This camp reflects our commitment to community service and improving public health through outreach programs. The NSS Unit regularly organises a visit to the Anganwadi Kendra at Prasanti Vihar Colony. During the visit, NSS volunteers interact warmly with the children through educational and playful activities, aiming at enhancing their confidence and social skills. The volunteers collaborate closely with the Anganwadi teachers to create an engaging and joyful environment. The children enthusiastically showcase their talents in writing, dancing, painting, and artwork. Earth Day Plantation Drive

On Earth Day (April 22, 2026), the KIIT NSS Unit of Civil Engineering organized an impactful program promoting environmental awareness and sustainability during the summer vacation. Despite the holidays, students actively participated in a decentralized Plantation Drive by planting saplings in their homes and local communities across cities including Darbhanga, Patna, Nalanda, Garhwa, Hajipur, Bijapur, Bhagalpur, and Guwahati. The initiative also featured a Poster-Making Activity, where volunteers created handmade posters spreading messages on climate action and environmental conservation. The event reflected the students’ dedication toward a greener future and highlighted the importance of individual responsibility in protecting nature.

The NSS Unit successfully organized “Jal Raksha and Beat the Heat 2.0” on the occasion of World Water Day, combining environmental awareness with humanitarian service. The initiative focused on promoting water conservation through multilingual pamphlet distribution and public interaction across KIIT campuses and nearby areas. Volunteers also distributed water bottles, fruits, and juices to frontline workers, including traffic police, sanitation staff, and security personnel, to provide relief from extreme heat. The programme enhanced awareness regarding sustainable water usage, encouraged responsible environmental practices, and fostered empathy towards essential workers.

Our NSS unit organized an Ideathon, "Innovate. Create. Achieve.", bringing together 170 volunteers to promote innovation and real-world problem-solving. Participants presented creative ideas, including an emergency medical card app and a solution for recycling cigarette waste. A panel of judges and faculty members evaluated the pitches and provided valuable insights to improve the concepts. The event concluded with winners receiving mementos, successfully encouraging creativity, teamwork, and a culture of innovation among students.

The NSS KSBT Special Camp was conducted from 14th to 21st March 2026 at Bengali Sahi and Shikharchandi with active participation from NSS volunteers. Throughout the seven days, various social, cultural, environmental, and awareness-based activities were organized, including introductory community interaction sessions, painting and dance competitions, trekking and cleanliness drives, drug-free and road safety awareness rallies, government scheme awareness campaigns, sanitary pad distribution, quiz competitions, sports activities for children, prize distribution, and cultural performances. The camp promoted teamwork, social responsibility, environmental awareness, creativity, and community engagement, reflecting the dedication and service spirit of rural development and social welfare.

After insightful speeches from Dr. Misra and Programme Officer Dr. Raghunath Dey, volunteers showcased an appreciation video and performed a powerful dance themed around empowerment. The session also included an interactive quiz and a "myth busters" segment to challenge gender stereotypes, rewarding top performers with goodies. The NSS Unit successfully organized a “Fire Awareness and Mock Drill” programme to promote safety awareness and emergency preparedness among students and volunteers. Conducted in collaboration with the Odisha Fire Service team, the event witnessed active participation from over 100 students and NSS volunteers. Expert-led sessions and live demonstrations provided practical knowledge on fire hazards, evacuation procedures, the Fire Triangle, and the proper use of different fire extinguishers. Participants also gained hands-on experience through a mock drill under professional supervision. The programme significantly disaster preparedness while contributing to the creation of a safer and more aware campus environment.

The Heat Wave Awareness Rally was organized by KSEC NSS volunteers to spread awareness about the effects of extreme heat and preventive safety measures among villagers. Over three impactful days, the Department of Pedodontics & Preventive Dentistry, Kalinga Institute of Dental Sciences (KIDS), in association with KIIT National Service Scheme (NSS), successfully conducted a comprehensive dental outreach across Keonjhar. A total of 750 children were screened, with preventive and curative dental treatments provided alongside oral health education sessions. The initiative reached underprivileged tribal children and children with hearing impairment, ensuring quality oral healthcare where it is needed most. We sincerely thank our Honourable Founder, Prof. Dr. Achyuta Samanta, whose vision of compassionate service continues to inspire meaningful community outreach and healthier smiles for every child.
